Master Halco Fence Installation: The Pasadena Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Master Halco fence systems throughout Pasadena, with most full installations running $3,500 to $9,000 depending on linear footage, gate hardware, and post setting conditions. If you’re standing in your yard looking at a leaning section, a gate that drags, or posts that have rotted at the soil line, you’re in the right place. We keep Master Halco PostMaster posts, fence brackets, and gate hardware on our trucks, which means we can usually diagnose and quote the same day we look at it.
Which Master Halco Models This Applies To
Master Halco builds fencing around two main systems: the PostMaster steel post line and their wood vinyl collections like ColorStream and DuraGrain for privacy fencing. The PostMaster post is the one that catches people off guard. It’s a galvanized steel U-channel, not a square tube, and it’s designed to be set directly in concrete without wood posts. If your existing fence has wood posts and you want to switch to PostMaster, the post spacing matters: Master Halco specs PostMaster at 8-foot centers, while older wood-post fences in Pasadena are often set at 6-foot or even 5-foot centers around Bungalow Heaven and other pre-war neighborhoods. We check that before quoting, because spacing changes the material count and the labor. Sawyer Remodel Pasadena is an independent contractor, not affiliated with Master Halco, but we order direct from their distribution network so the product on your fence is genuine, not a loose copy.

Signs Your Master Halco Fence Installation Is Failing
- Posts leaning at the soil line. This is almost always a wood post rotting below grade. Pasadena’s clay-heavy soil holds water against the post, especially in older irrigation zones. The fix is a PostMaster steel post replacement, not just re-plumbing the same rotted wood.
- Gate dragging or won’t latch. The hinge side has settled or the post itself is moving. Master Halco gate frames are stout, but the post takes all the load. If the post is sound, we adjust the hinges and re-square the gate. If the post is soft, that’s the problem and the gate was never going to hold.
- Rails pulling away from the post. The bracket fasteners have worked loose, or the bracket was never sized right for the rail. Master Halco brackets are model-specific: the PostMaster rail bracket for a 2×4 rail is not the same as the one for a 2×3. Mixing them leaves play, and play becomes a wobble this time next year.
- Pickets cracking or warping off the rails. Sun exposure in Pasadena dries one face of the board faster than the other. If your fence gets full afternoon sun and the boards are cupping, that’s a material reality of any wood fence, not a Master Halco defect. We replace individual pickets and can swap in a denser species if it keeps happening.
- You can see daylight between the post and the concrete. That gap means water has been pooling around the base. It won’t get better. In a wet winter, that’s where the post fails completely.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Pasadena, a typical Master Halco fence installation runs $3,500 to $9,000. The low end covers a straight run of panel fencing with wood posts on level ground, maybe 60 to 100 linear feet. The high end covers PostMaster steel posts throughout, custom gate hardware, old fence removal, and haul-off, plus sloped yard sections that eat time and material. Every quote we give is a written line-item price before any work starts. You’ll see the material count, the labor, and the disposal fee separated out. If the old posts were set in concrete, that’s a line item. If we’re setting new posts in Pasadena’s clay, we over-dig and use a deeper concrete footing than code minimum, because we’ve pulled too many shallow footings out of the ground here to trust the bare minimum. The work carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not done right, we make it right, in writing, on every project.
DIY or Call Us?
You can check a few things yourself: grab the post and push it. If it moves, that’s a failed post, not a failed panel. Look at the bracket screws: if they’re rusted out, that’s an afternoon fix with the right hardware. But setting a PostMaster post is not a weekend-toy job. Digging a deep hole in Pasadena clay, backfilling with concrete, and getting the post plumb while the concrete sets takes a real understanding of how the post moves when the rail gets loaded. Do it wrong and the fence is leaning by October. If you want to know whether the whole thing needs replacing or just a section, call us at (626) 657-5396 and we’ll come look. The estimate is free and the price we quote is the price on the invoice.
FAQs

A PostMaster steel post fence with a wood infill lasts 25 to 30 years, and in our experience around Pasadena, the posts outlive the pickets and rails two to one. Wood-post fences, even with pressure-treated lumber, usually show real problems at the 10 to 15 year mark here because of soil moisture against the base. If you want the longest run without touching it again, steel posts are the better money. Call (626) 657-5396 for a quote on upgrading your existing wood-post fence.
It depends on what failed. A rotted post can be replaced with a single PostMaster post without touching the rest of the fence. Same with a bad section of pickets or one warped rail. But if you’ve got three or more posts soft at the base and rails pulling loose, you’re usually looking at a partial or full re-install anyway because the labor to band-aid it costs more than doing it right. We’ll tell you straight what we’d do if it were our yard.
Most straight-line installations in Pasadena take two to three days from demo to final walk-through. Gate work and sloped sections add time. We give you a live arrival time for the crew, photo updates while we work, and a written price before we start, so there’s no guessing about who’s showing up or what the final number will be.
We carry PostMaster posts, rail brackets, gate hinges, and fasteners on the truck, along with a selection of common picket profiles. If your project needs a special order, like a ColorStream color match or a specific gate size, we can usually have it from the Master Halco distribution yard in a few days. Call (626) 657-5396 and we’ll check what’s on hand before you commit to anything.
