IKO Fence Installation: The Pasadena Owner’s Guide

IKO fence installation in Pasadena typically runs $3,500 to $9,000 for a full perimeter, and we stock the rails, pickets, posts, and hardware to match most IKO vinyl and composite lines. If you’re standing in your yard looking at a cracked rail or a post that’s pulling out of the concrete, here’s the short version: we can match the part, quote the job in writing, and handle the install so it holds up in Pasadena’s dry heat and shifting clay soil. Most homeowners discover IKO fence failure the same way: a gate stops latching after the post leans, or a section of rail snaps during a Santa Ana wind event because the original installer skipped a post every six feet instead of four.

We’re an independent Pasadena contractor, not a division of IKO. That means we’re free to tell you when an aftermarket part makes more sense than OEM, and we’ll show you the difference in writing before you spend a dollar.

Which IKO Models This Applies To

IKO’s residential fence catalog splits into a few families, and the part numbers matter when you’re mating new rail to old post. The Marathon series uses a thicker wall profile on the bottom rail than the Concord line, and you cannot swap rail brackets between them without drilling new holes and weakening the post. We see this mistake all over Pasadena backyards: someone orders a “universal” rail hanger online, forces it into an IKO post, and six months later the rail is sagging because the fastener never seated. The right move is to check the embossed code on the inside of a picket or the cap of a post. If it starts with “M-” you have Marathon; “C-” is Concord. If the printing is worn off, measure the rail channel. Marathon takes a 1.5-inch rail; Concord takes 1.25.

For IKO composite boards, we recommend OEM rail and post caps because the color-matching on aftermarket caps is notoriously off by two or three shades after one Pasadena summer of UV exposure. For pickets, a high-quality generic in the same profile and gauge is usually fine and saves real money. We’ll tell you which is which on the estimate.

Signs Your IKO Fence Installation Is Failing

  • The gate drags or won’t latch. The hinge post has leaned out of plumb, usually because it was set in a shallow concrete footing. Pasadena’s clay soil expands when wet and shrinks in summer, and a post set 18 inches deep instead of 30 will drift within two years.
  • Rails are bowing between posts. The post spacing is too wide for the rail span. IKO vinyl rails have a maximum unsupported span of six feet, and in wind-exposed areas like the hills above the Rose Bowl, four feet is safer.
  • Pickets are cracking at the bottom corners. Thermal expansion is the cause. Vinyl expands and contracts with temperature swings, and if the installer butted pickets tight to the rail with no room to move, they crack. This is an installation defect, not a material defect.
  • Posts are turning chalky white. That’s UV degradation, and it’s more aggressive in Pasadena than coastal areas because of our dry, sunny exposure. Once the surface starts powdering, the post is losing structural integrity below the surface.
  • Sections rattle in the wind. The rail brackets have lost tension, or the bottom rail was never secured to the post with the proper stainless screws. Rattling is the first warning sign before the rail lets go entirely.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

An open living space after a whole-home remodel

For a full IKO fence installation in Pasadena, budget $3,500 to $9,000 depending on linear footage, gate count, and whether we’re reusing existing footings or pouring new ones. A smaller repair like a single post replacement or one rail section typically lands between $250 and $700. The range moves on a few things: how much demo is involved, whether the old posts were set in concrete that needs breaking out, and whether your property sits on a slope that requires stepped sections instead of a straight run.

Every quote from Sawyer Remodel Pasadena is a written, line-item price before any work starts. That means the number on the invoice matches the number you approved, no change orders unless you ask for scope changes. We install with stainless hardware rated for ground contact, set posts at the correct depth for Pasadena soil, and back every fence installation with our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the fence isn’t right, we come back and make it right at no charge.

IKO Fence Work Typical Pasadena Installed Price
Full perimeter fence installation $3,500 – $9,000
Single post replacement $250 – $500
Rail section repair $150 – $350
Gate hinge and latch rebuild $200 – $450

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things on your own. Wiggle each post at the top. Look for gaps between the rail and the post cap. See if any pickets have pulled free of the bottom rail channel. Those checks tell us a lot during a phone call, and they cost you nothing. What you should not do is dig out a leaning post or try to reset it yourself. A vinyl post full of concrete is heavier than it looks, and if the fence line is near a gas line or sprinkler main, a shovel is the wrong tool. We’ve repaired Pasadena fences where a homeowner nicked a main and spent more on the plumbing call than the fence repair would have cost.

If the post is leaning, the rail is cracked, or the gate won’t close, call (626) 657-5396 and we’ll come look. The estimate is free.
