CWS Kitchen Remodeling: The Pasadena Owner’s Guide
A full CWS kitchen remodel in Pasadena typically runs $14,000 to $45,000 installed, with the spread driven by cabinet configuration, countertop material, and whether you’re reworking plumbing or electrical. Most Pasadena homeowners discover they need us when a cabinet face has delaminated, a drawer glide gives out mid-reach, or the countertop seam has opened up enough to catch a sponge. You’re not looking for a patch job anymore – you’re looking for the whole kitchen to work like it should have from day one.
We’re Sawyer Remodel Pasadena, an independent contractor serving Pasadena and nearby areas. We are not affiliated with CWS, but we work on CWS kitchens regularly – older builds in Bungalow Heaven, mid-century condos off South Lake, the tract homes up in Hastings Ranch. If your CWS kitchen is tired, failing piece by piece, or just not built for how you actually cook, we can tell you exactly what’s worth saving and what isn’t.
Which CWS Models This Applies To

CWS kitchen cabinetry covers several distinct lines, and the failure profile differs by generation. If your kitchen went in between roughly 2005 and 2012, you’re likely looking at CWS’s stock-plus line: particleboard boxes, light-gauge drawer glides, and vinyl-wrapped doors. That door delamination you’re seeing at the bottom edge? Classic. The hinges were fine; the substrate wasn’t.
Later CWS builds (2013 onward) moved to a sturdier plywood box spec on their mid-tier semi-custom line, but the drawer hardware remained the weak point. The easiest way to identify what you have: open a drawer and look for a sticker on the inside of the box, usually on the right panel. It’ll list the line code – SP for stock-plus, SC for semi-custom. No sticker? Measure the drawer slide length. Stock-plus glides run 18 inches; semi-custom runs 21 inches. That tells us a lot before we even walk in. When it comes to replacement, we default to name-brand cabinetry from KraftMaid and Wellborn if the boxes are truly shot – meaning a full gut-out rather than a part-by-part rescue – and we also keep Cambria and Silestone on our standard countertop list when a CWS laminate or solid surface top has reached the end.
Styles & brands we work with

Signs Your CWS Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
- Door edges that peel or bubble at the bottom. Moisture gets under the vinyl wrap and breaks the adhesive bond. Pasadena’s dry summers slow it, but every steam-heavy December pushes it further.
- Drawers that stick, sag, or ride crooked. The undermount glides lose their ball bearings over time, and with a 50-pound pot drawer, they fail faster than the cabinet face ever will.
- Countertop seams that open or discolor. Southern California temperature swings expand and contract the substrate. If your seam catches a fingernail, water is already getting under the laminate.
- Soft-close hinges that no longer soft-close. The little dampener cylinder inside the hinge cup dies. One dead hinge is an annoyance; ten dead hinges means the whole set was installed under tension.
- Adjustable shelves that drop or tilt. The plastic shelf clips get brittle from age and UV. They snap, the shelf drops, and suddenly your plates are on the floor instead of in the cabinet.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

A full CWS kitchen remodel in Pasadena runs $14,000 to $45,000. That includes demolition and haul-off of the old cabinets and counters, inspection of the wall framing and subfloor, new cabinet installation with proper shimming and leveling (not the “close enough” you inherited), countertop fabrication and install, new plumbing connections at the sink, and all finish trim and hardware.
| Scope | Pasadena Installed Range |
|---|---|
| Full Kitchen Remodel (CWS replacement) | $14,000 – $45,000 |
| Small Kitchen Remodel | $9,000 – $20,000 |
| Cabinet Installation Only | $4,000 – $13,000 |
| Countertop Installation Only | $2,000 – $6,500 |
| Backsplash Installation | $800 – $2,500 |
| Kitchen Island Installation | $3,000 – $10,000 |
What drives the spread? Cabinet grade (stock runs lower, semi-custom higher), countertop material (laminate is the floor, quartz from Cambria or Caesarstone pushes toward the top), whether you’re moving plumbing or gas, and whether your electrical needs a panel upgrade to handle new circuits. Every quote is a written, line-item price before any work starts. The number on the invoice is the number you approved. And every project carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not done right, we make it right, in writing, for a full year.
DIY or Call Us?
If a drawer glide is loose, you can tighten it. If a shelf clip snapped, you can order a replacement pack and set it. If a hinge screws are backing out, snug them with a screwdriver and watch it for a month. That’s about where the safe DIY lane ends on a CWS kitchen.
Countertop removal involves separating glued seams from cabinetry, and if the tops were installed with construction adhesive, you’ll pull the cabinet face right off with it. Cabinet box replacement means shimming, scribing, and leveling to a tolerance you can’t eyeball. And if you’re moving a sink or an appliance, you’re touching plumbing and gas – that’s where a Pasadena building permit and a licensed contractor become the rule, not the suggestion. Luca Romano has been tearing out and rebuilding kitchens throughout Pasadena for over two decades, including plenty of older homes where the original framing is anything but square. The work tells you everything. You just have to know how to listen to it.
FAQs

Most CWS kitchens in Pasadena show real wear between 15 and 20 years, with drawer hardware and door delamination being the first points of failure in our climate. Cabinets near the sink or dishwasher fail five to seven years faster than the rest of the run. Call (626) 657-5396 and we’ll tell you honestly whether yours is worth repairing or replacing.
Yes, but only if the cabinet boxes are still solid – we can reface doors, swap hardware, and replace the countertop without gutting the whole kitchen. If the boxes are swollen or the frames are separating, you’re spending good money on a structure that’s already done. Call (626) 657-5396 for a free estimate, and we’ll tell you which side of that line your kitchen sits on.
A full CWS kitchen replacement in Pasadena typically runs 4 to 8 weeks from demo to final walkthrough, depending on permit timing, countertop fabrication lead time, and whether any plumbing or electrical work requires inspection. Smaller kitchen remodels can land closer to 3 to 5 weeks. We give you a written schedule and photo updates before and after every major phase.
We stock common failure hardware on our trucks, including drawer glides, hinge sets, and shelf clips for the CWS stock-plus and semi-custom lines we see most often in Pasadena homes. If you need an exact-match CWS door or drawer face, we can order it through our supplier network. Call (626) 657-5396 and tell us what you’re chasing – we’ll let you know same-day if it’s something we already carry.
