Cover Fence Installation: The Pasadena Owner’s Guide

Cover fence installation in Pasadena typically costs between $3,500 and $9,000 fully installed, depending on the fence style, linear footage, and how much of the old structure needs to come out first. We stock Cover-compatible fence components and can usually schedule the work within five to seven business days. Most people discover they need this once a post heaves after winter rain, a gate starts dragging against the concrete, or a section of fence leans far enough that the neighbor starts leaving notes.

Which Cover Models This Applies To

Cover is a newer name in modular and prefab fencing, and the product line is tighter than the big box brands: most installations use Cover’s interlocking aluminum or composite fence panels with post sleeves that slide over a galvanized steel core. If you have a Cover fence, you’re working with either their horizontal slat system or the vertical board-and-batten style. The horizontal slats lock into routed channels in the posts; the vertical panels use a tongue-and-groove design that’s cleaner to look at but harder to repair one board at a time. The fastest way to identify what you have is to look at a post cap or the underside of a panel. Cover stamps a small model code there, usually a two-letter prefix followed by numbers. Take a photo of that stamp before you call anyone, including us, because it tells us the exact extrusion profile, slat width, and post dimensions we need to match. Replacement parts are OEM-first. Cover’s warranty covers manufacturing defects, but once a fence is out of warranty, quality aftermarket extrusions with the same channel width (typically 6 inch or 8 inch slat spacing) work fine and cost about 20 to 30 percent less. The gotcha: Cover changed their post sleeve inner diameter on some 2021 and later models from 2.375 inches to 2.5 inches. If you buy a post cap or rail bracket off a generic shelf thinking it’ll fit, it won’t, and you’ll have a loose cap that rattles. We match by measuring the sleeve, not the post, because the sleeve is what the hardware grips.

Signs Your Cover Fence Installation Is Failing

  • Posts leaning more than a few degrees. In Pasadena’s clay-heavy soil, winter rain saturates the ground and expands it, then the dry season contracts it. Over two or three cycles, a post set in concrete can start to walk. You’ll see the fence line bowing from the street before you notice it up close.
  • Slats popping out of the channel. This is almost always a post that’s shifted, not a slat problem. When the vertical post leans, the horizontal channel widens just enough that the slat loses its grip. If one slat falls, more follow.
  • Gate dragging or jamming. A gate that scrapes the concrete or concrete pad is telling you the hinge post has moved. Adjusting the hinges might buy you a month, but if the post isn’t reset, you’ll be adjusting again by the next season.
  • White chalky residue or pitting on aluminum. This is galvanic corrosion, common when aluminum sits against untreated steel hardware. Most Cover installs use stainless fasteners, but if a previous contractor used off-the-shelf zinc screws, the aluminum around the fastener corrodes first.
  • Wind whistle or rattling during Santa Ana gusts. Horizontal slat fences sing when the slats lose tension. Once the locking channel wears or the post shifts, air gets between the slats and the whole section vibrates. It’s annoying, but it’s also a warning that the structure is loosening.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For a typical 50 to 60 linear foot Cover fence in Pasadena, a full replacement runs $3,500 to $9,000 installed. A repair job, like resetting two posts and replacing a handful of slats, usually lands between $600 and $1,200. What drives the range: total linear feet, whether the old posts were set in concrete (they usually are), whether we’re reusing panels or pulling everything out, and access. A fence along a narrow side yard where we’re hauling out old concrete by hand costs more than an open backyard where we can get a wheelbarrow through. Every quote includes the parts with their line-item cost, the labor broken out, the old fence removal, concrete disposal, and the post-setting. We put the price in writing before we start, and the number on the invoice is the number you approved. The work is covered under our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if a post shifts or a slat comes loose within a year, we come back and fix it. No argument, no second invoice.

DIY or Call Us?

If you have a single popped slat and the post is still dead level, you can push it back into the channel yourself. That’s a five-minute fix and you don’t need us for it. But if the post has moved, leave it alone. Digging out a concrete footing in Pasadena clay is a two-person job at minimum, and if you don’t set the new footing below the root zone, you’ll be doing it again in two years. Same goes for pulling a warped post out of the ground: the post under tension can snap back. We’ve seen more than one homeowner catch a fence panel to the face trying to save a few hundred dollars. The part itself isn’t dangerous. The weight and the leverage are. Call us at (626) 657-5396 if the post is leaning or you see concrete cracking around the base. We’ll come out, look at it, and tell you honestly whether it’s a repair or a replacement. The estimate is free either way.
