Cambridge Pavers Driveway & Pavers: The Pasadena Owner’s Guide
Cambridge Pavers driveway and paver repair in Pasadena typically runs $700 – $18,000 depending on whether you’re replacing a few settled stones or rebuilding the entire driveway. We stock Cambridge Pavers-compatible units on our trucks and can usually match your existing color and pattern the same day we come out. Most Pasadena homeowners discover a problem the way you probably did: a paver that’s cracked, sunken, or shifted after a heavy rain, or a section of the driveway that’s started to heave where tree roots from those old camphor and magnolia trees along Orange Grove have pushed through the base.
Which Cambridge Pavers Models This Applies To

Cambridge Pavingstones has a few distinct product lines, and the compatibility details matter more than most people expect. The Sherwood Collection and Ledgestone Collection are the two most common lines we see in Pasadena driveways, followed by the Roundtable Collection for patios and walkways. Each line runs different joint widths and thickness tolerances, so a paver from one line will not seat properly next to a paver from another, even if the color looks close.
To identify what you have: flip over a loose paver if you can. Cambridge stamps the series name on the back of most units, or you’ll see a four-digit mold code. If the stamp is worn, measure the thickness. Sherwood units run 60mm and 80mm. Ledgestone runs 60mm only. Driveways in Pasadena need at minimum 80mm pavers over a compacted base if they’re going to hold up to vehicle traffic. We’ve seen plenty of patios that were installed with 60mm units, then someone started parking a car on them, and the pavers cracked within two years. That’s the single most common compatibility mistake we fix.
There’s no true OEM part to buy here the way there is with a dishwasher or a window. Cambridge sells through authorized dealers, and replacement pavers are still Cambridge units, just pulled from current production runs. The catch: colors shift slightly from batch to batch. A Harvest Gold paver made in 2021 will not be a perfect match for one made in 2025. Where it works, we’ll pull from a blended section so the patch reads as intentional. Quality aftermarket equivalents exist for some colors, but we only use them when the homeowner wants to save money and accepts a visible difference, or when the original color has been discontinued.

Signs Your Cambridge Pavers Driveway Is Failing
- Paver is cracked across the surface. Usually a base problem, not a paver problem. Water got under the stones, the base settled unevenly, and the paver snapped under load. Replacing the paver alone won’t fix it; we have to correct the base or it cracks again within a season.
- Edge pavers along the border are pulling away from the driveway. The edge restraint wasn’t installed or has failed. Without a solid restraint, the whole field can creep outward. Every Cambridge driveway needs a proper edge detail, and we re-set them constantly around San Rafael and Linda Vista where lots sit on a slope.
- Water pools in one spot that used to drain. The base has settled lower than the surrounding grade. Pasadena’s clay soil expands and contracts through our wet-dry seasons, and it’s hard on paver bases. If you’re seeing standing water, the base under that section is gone.
- Paver is sinking while the neighbors look fine. Check your downspouts. We see more paver failures from a downspout dumping water at the driveway edge than from anything else. That concentrated flow erodes the base from the edge in.
- White chalky residue on the paver surface. Efflorescence. Water moves through the paver, pulls minerals up, and leaves them as a film when it evaporates. It’s often cosmetic, but it tells us water is moving through the paver the wrong way, which usually means the drainage layer below is failing.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

What you’ll pay in Pasadena depends on how much of the driveway is compromised. A small patch repair where we pull 20 – 30 pavers, correct the base, and re-set them usually lands between $700 and $1,800. A partial driveway replacement where we’re re-doing a section of base and re-laying a few hundred square feet runs $3,000 – $7,000. A full paver driveway installation on a standard Pasadena lot sits at $7,000 – $18,000, and that’s the number to anchor on if your base has failed in multiple spots.
Every quote we give you is a written price before work starts. It includes the pavers, new base material where needed, joint sand, edge restraint, labor, and haul-off of the old material. You’ll know the number before we pick up a tool, and it won’t change at the door. Our 365-Day Done Right Promise applies to every paver repair we do: if the repair fails within a year, we’re back to make it right, no argument. If it fails, the second visit is free.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely lift and re-set a single loose paver if the base underneath is still solid. Pop it out, check for cracks in the base, brush new joint sand in, and tamp it back down. That’s a weekend fix, and it’s fine. But if the base under the paver is mushy, if there’s standing water, or if you can see a void under the surface, do not just add more sand. You’re masking a structural failure, not fixing it, and the problem comes back worse. Tree root intrusion is another one we see people fight for a year before calling us. Cutting roots by hand, chasing paver-leveling with a rubber mallet, re-sanding every month because the joints keep washing out – you’ll spend more time than we’d charge you to do it right once.
The work tells you everything. You just have to know how to listen to it. If your driveway is talking, call Luca and the crew at (626) 657-5396 and we’ll come listen.
FAQs

A properly installed Cambridge paver driveway in Pasadena should last 25 – 30 years before you need major work, with the caveat that our clay soil and seasonal rains can shorten that if the drainage was done wrong. The pavers themselves will outlast the base. Plan on re-sanding joints every 3 – 5 years and re-setting a few pavers as the ground shifts.
If the crack is hairline and the paver is still seated flat, you can live with it and just monitor. If the paver is cracked through or rocking, it needs to come out. The repair is a swap, not a patch – we pull the broken unit, fix whatever caused the failure underneath, install a color-matched replacement, and re-sand. Call (626) 657-5396 if you want to know which situation you have.
A small patch repair is usually a one-day job. A partial driveway rebuild takes two to three days, and a full driveway replacement runs three to five days depending on access and how much old base we’re hauling out. You’ll get a live arrival time and photo updates before and after, per The Relay Standard on every job.
We stock the most common Cambridge colors and sizes on our trucks, and we can order anything unusual from our local dealer, usually same-week. The only time we can’t match is when a color has been discontinued by Cambridge, and in that case we’ll show you the closest current option and let you decide before we install anything. Call (626) 657-5396 for a free estimate and we’ll tell you exactly what we can match.
