Bufftech Fence Installation: The Pasadena Owner’s Guide
Bufftech fence installation in Pasadena typically runs $3,500 to $9,000 for a full panel-and-post replacement, with partial repairs or single-section swaps starting closer to the low end of that range. Most Bufftech owners discover the failure the same way: a post leaning after the Santa Ana winds, a bottom rail that snapped at the bracket, or a gate that no longer latches square. We stock Bufftech-compatible posts, rails, pickets, and gate hardware, and our crews work Pasadena neighborhoods from Bungalow Heaven to Hastings Ranch every week.
What usually brings the call isn’t the vinyl itself. It’s the hardware behind it. Bufftech panels hold up well in Southern California sun, but the aluminum reinforcements and steel brackets take the real beating, especially in older installs where the original installer skimped on concrete depth. We’ll walk through exactly what fails and what it costs to put it right.
Which Bufftech Models This Applies To

We work with the full Bufftech lineup still common in Pasadena yards: the CertaGrain and Windsor series for privacy, the Brookline and Coventry styles for semi-privacy, and the Veranda and Chesterfield lines for decorative low-profile runs. Each series uses different post dimensions and rail profiles, and that’s where owners get tripped up. A CertaGrain rail won’t slot into a Windsor post, period. The profiles look close at a glance but the internal channel widths differ by a quarter inch or more.
The quickest way to identify what you have is to pull a picket or check the top rail cap. Bufftech stamps the series name on the inside channel of most post sleeves and caps. If the stamp is faded from sun, measure the post face: 5-inch square posts are almost always CertaGrain or Windsor, while 4-inch posts point to decorative lines like Veranda or Chesterfield. When the original Bufftech part is discontinued in a color, we source quality aftermarket equivalents that match the existing UV-faded tone more closely than a factory-new panel would. Bufftech’s colors settle over time. A brand-new Sahara Tan panel next to a ten-year-old Sahara Tan fence will show the difference. That’s a real compatibility gotcha worth knowing before you buy.

Signs Your Bufftech Fence Installation Is Failing
- Post lean at the base, especially after rain. This is nearly always a concrete-footer problem, not a vinyl problem. The post was set too shallow or with too little concrete, and the wind load eventually worked it loose. In Pasadena’s clay-heavy soil, we see this on fences installed less than five years ago.
- Bottom rail sagging or cracked at the bracket. The bottom rail carries the most weight and water. When the aluminum stiffener inside the rail corrodes or was never installed, the vinyl sags and eventually snaps at the screw point.
- Gate dragging or refusing to latch. Hinges and latches on Bufftech gates wear fastest because they’re the only moving parts. Once the hinge screws wallow out the post, shimming won’t help. The post needs a proper repair or the gate needs re-hanging on new hardware.
- Pickets popping out of the top rail. Bufftech pickets are friction-fit into routed channels. Heat expansion and contraction over a few Pasadena summers can loosen that fit, especially on west-facing runs that catch the afternoon sun.
- Chalky or brittle panel surface. Vinyl shouldn’t chalk badly for 15 to 20 years. If your fence is brittle at year eight, it’s usually an early-batch formula issue from a specific manufacturing period. Replacement panels in the current formula will outlast the originals.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

Bufftech fence installation in Pasadena runs $3,500 to $9,000 for a full replacement. The range splits this way:
- Full fence replacement (standard 60 to 100 linear feet): $3,500 – $9,000 installed, including demo and haul-away of the old fence.
- Single-section repair (one panel plus post): $350 – $900 depending on the series and whether the post footer needs resetting.
- Gate replacement or re-hang: $400 – $1,200 with new hinges, latch, and post reinforcement.
- Post-only replacement (footer intact): $250 – $500 per post.
What drives the high end is fence height, total linear feet, access, and whether the existing concrete footers need full removal. We write the price before work starts, so the number you approve is the number on the invoice. Every Bufftech repair carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise, and that’s in writing on the job, not something you have to ask for.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things before calling. See if the post moves when you push it at the top. Look at the rail brackets for rust or missing screws. Check whether the gate hinge screws have pulled out of the post. Those three observations tell us more over the phone than a photo often does.
What we don’t recommend is digging out and resetting a post yourself. The hole must go below the frost line (irrelevant in Pasadena, but still a minimum of 18 to 24 inches for wind stability), the concrete needs to cure before you rehang the panel, and the panel has to go back in plumb and square or you’ll fight the gate for years. It’s not dangerous, it’s just unforgiving work. The gate and post are structural, and a leaning fence against a Pasadena property line becomes the neighbor’s problem faster than you’d think.

FAQs

A properly installed Bufftech fence lasts 20 to 25 years in Pasadena’s climate. The vinyl itself handles UV well, but the hardware (brackets, screws, gate hinges) typically needs attention at year 10 to 15. Call (626) 657-5396 if your fence is hitting that age and showing the signs above; we’ll let you know if it’s a repair or a replacement.
Small cracks can sometimes be stabilized, but vinyl doesn’t glue well enough to restore structural strength in a rail or post. For load-bearing parts like rails and posts, replacement is the honest fix. Pickets and caps are cheap enough that we replace rather than patch. Call (626) 657-5396 for a straight answer on your specific damage.
Most single-panel or post repairs take half a day, including concrete or hardware curing time. A full fence replacement runs two to three days for a standard Pasadena lot. We’ll give you a written timeline with your estimate.
We stock common Bufftech-compatible posts, rails, pickets, brackets, and gate hardware on our trucks. For odd colors or discontinued series, we source matching aftermarket equivalents and have them in hand before we schedule the job. No showing up and hoping. Call (626) 657-5396 and we’ll confirm what we have for your series and color.
If your Bufftech fence is leaning, cracked, or the gate won’t close, get a written price first. Call (626) 657-5396 for a free estimate from a Pasadena crew that does the work the same way we’d want it done at our own houses.
