ActiveYards Kitchen Remodeling: The Pasadena Owner’s Guide

An ActiveYards kitchen remodel in Pasadena typically runs $14,000 to $45,000 installed, depending on cabinet line, countertop material, and how much structural work the space needs. We stock ActiveYards-compatible hardware, door fronts, and drawer systems on our trucks, so most trim-out and component swaps happen in a single visit. Most owners realize something’s off the same way: a door won’t close square, a drawer catches mid-pull, or the finish on a lower cabinet starts showing moisture damage near the sink.

ActiveYards builds a modular cabinet system, which is good news when something fails. The bad news is that not every ActiveYards component is interchangeable across model years. If you’ve got an older kitchen and a newer cabinet, the door profiles sometimes don’t match, and the hinge spacing can be off by a few millimeters. That’s the kind of thing that turns a thirty-minute repair into an afternoon of frustration if you’re guessing. We do this work throughout Pasadena, including a lot of the mid-century and craftsman homes around Bungalow Heaven and San Rafael, where original kitchens got retrofitted with ActiveYards boxes and the clearances are tighter than what the spec sheets assume.

We are an independent remodeling contractor in Pasadena. We are not affiliated with ActiveYards, and we don’t claim to be. What we do claim is that we’ve worked with enough ActiveYards product to know exactly what to order, what to avoid, and when a repair isn’t worth the money compared to a replacement.

Which ActiveYards Models This Applies To

ActiveYards cabinet lines have shifted over the years. The current lineup includes the Aspen, Birch, and Cedar series, each with different door profiles, finish options, and box construction. Aspen is the entry line with framed construction and standard overlay doors. Birch steps up to full-overlay doors and more finish options. Cedar is the premium line with plywood boxes, soft-close everything, and deeper drawers. If you’re not sure which series you have, look inside a drawer box: there’s usually a stamped label or a sticker with the model code and a manufacture date.

The compatibility gotcha that trips up Pasadena homeowners is this: hinge and drawer-slide hardware changed on Birch and Cedar models produced after roughly 2019. Pre-2019 boxes used a different soft-close mechanism, and the mounting holes don’t line up if you try to retrofit newer hardware onto older doors. We’ve seen owners order replacement drawer slides online and end up with holes drilled in the wrong place, which weakens the door face and leads to a sag within a year. The OEM-versus-aftermarket question, for ActiveYards specifically, comes down to what’s failed. Hinges and glides, aftermarket equivalents are often fine and cost 30% to 40% less than OEM. Door fronts and drawer boxes, go OEM. The finish codes on aftermarket doors rarely match the original run exactly, even when the color name is identical.

Signs Your ActiveYards Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing

  • Doors won’t close flush or bounce back open. This is almost always a hinge that’s worn past its spring tension, or a soft-close mechanism that’s jammed with debris. On ActiveYards full-overlay doors, even a millimeter of hinge shift changes the reveal between doors and makes the whole run look off.
  • Drawers stick halfway, then slam. The roller or ball-bearing slide has lost its alignment, and the drawer is dragging on one side. In Pasadena’s dry summers, older plastic glides get brittle and crack, a failure we see more often in unconditioned kitchens or homes near the foothills where temperature swings are bigger.
  • Finish is peeling or bubbling near the sink and dishwasher. That’s moisture getting past the edge banding and into the fiberboard core. Once the core swells, the door never really looks right again, no matter what you do to the surface. This is the point where repair stops being worth it.
  • Soft-close stops working on every drawer in one cabinet. If the whole bank fails at once, the cabinet box itself has likely shifted, or the drawer front is pulling away from the box. Tightening screws sometimes buys you a month, but the real issue is usually the box has moved out of square.
  • Cabinet doors are starting to yellow or fade unevenly. That’s UV exposure doing its thing, especially on cream and white finishes. Pasadena gets enough direct sun that south-facing kitchens fade faster than the manufacturer’s finish warranty anticipates, no matter which series you bought.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A remodeled kitchen with painted cabinets and a farmhouse sink

For a full ActiveYards kitchen remodel in Pasadena, plan on $14,000 to $45,000 installed. That range covers everything in the breakouts below, and the spread comes down to cabinet series, countertop choice, and how much electrical and plumbing relocation the layout demands. A smaller kitchen with stock ActiveYards boxes and a laminate counter will land near the low end. A larger kitchen with Cedar-series cabinets, a Cambria or Silestone quartz top, and a rearranged island falls toward the high end.

  • Kitchen Remodel (full gut and rebuild): $14,000 – $45,000
  • Small Kitchen Remodel: $9,000 – $20,000
  • Cabinet Installation: $4,000 – $13,000, includes ActiveYards assembly and leveling
  • Countertop Installation: $2,000 – $6,500, quartz through partners including Cambria and Silestone
  • Backsplash Installation: $800 – $2,500
  • Kitchen Island Installation: $3,000 – $10,000

What’s included in our numbers: parts, delivery, tear-out and disposal of the old cabinets, leveling and shimming to Pasadena floor realities (older homes around Madison Heights and Orange Heights rarely have level floors), hardware adjustment, and touch-up. We also include the 365-Day Done Right Promise on every job, in writing. If something’s off after the install, we come back and make it right.

DIY or Call Us?

ActiveYards cabinets are modular, but the parts you touch most often, hinges, glides, and drawer boxes, are exactly the parts where a small mistake compounds. A hinge installed a sixteenth of an inch off changes the reveal on every adjacent door. A glide screwed in under tension will bind within weeks. That’s not a safety concern like a garage door spring, and we won’t pretend it is. This is more of an accuracy problem: cabinets show every shortcut, and a kitchen that’s slightly off looks worse than one you left alone.

What you can safely check yourself: pull each drawer open to full extension and look for cracked glides, tighten any hinge screws that have backed out, and feel for soft spots under the sink cabinet floor. The work tells you everything. You just have to know how to listen to it. When something needs a real fix, call us at (626) 657-5396 and we’ll match the part to your ActiveYards series, bring it out, and install it. Luca Romano has been doing this in Pasadena long enough to know when a repair is worth it and when the smarter move is replacing the whole cabinet run. We’ll tell you straight either way.
