CGI Fence Installation: The Pasadena Owner’s Guide

A full CGI fence installation in Pasadena typically runs $3,500 to $9,000 depending on linear footage, gate count, and whether you’re pulling out an old fence first. We stock CGI-compatible posts, rails, panels, and hardware on our trucks, and most residential installs wrap in one to two days once materials are on site. The owners who call us usually discovered the problem after a windstorm pushed the fence out of plumb, or a gate started dragging so hard it tore the hinge screws loose.

CGI fencing (the durable coated-galvanized panels you see around commercial properties and a growing number of Pasadena yards) handles California sun better than wood, but the installation details are where it succeeds or fails. The difference between a fence that lasts 20 years and one that needs rework in 18 months comes down to post depth, footing mix, and how the rails are fastened. We’ve rebuilt enough of them to know exactly which corner gets cut, and what it costs when that happens.

Which CGI Models This Applies To

CGI doesn’t use model numbers the way a kitchen faucet does. Their fence systems are identified by panel profile, gauge, and coating spec, so you’ll want to check the stamp on the rail or the paperwork from the original install. In Pasadena, the two most common profiles we work with are the 2¼” corrugated panel (the classic, deeper ridge) and the 1¼” S-curve style that reads more decorative on residential lots. Both install on CGI’s line-post and rail system, but the panel width can vary between 31″ and 32″ depending on the series, and that inch difference changes post spacing.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha we run into constantly: CGI panels are not universally interchangeable with the generic corrugated panels at big-box stores. The CGI panel has a specific radius on the ridges and a specific anti-corrosion coating process. A generically sourced panel will fit approximately, but the overlap doesn’t seat correctly, wind rattles the panel against the rail, and the exposed edges start rusting where the coating doesn’t match. For gates and hardware, you have more flexibility. Aftermarket post caps, hinge brackets, and latch kits in matching galvanized or powder-coated finish perform as well as OEM if the gauge matches. We don’t make you guess on any of it.

Signs Your CGI Fence Installation Is Failing

  • Posts leaning or out of plumb. This is almost always a footing problem, not a steel problem. The original footer was poured too shallow for Pasadena’s soil, or water has been pooling at the base and undermining it. In heavy clay areas near the Arroyo Seco, we see frost heave less and erosion more, and the fix is resetting the post in a deeper, properly mixed footing.
  • Rattling or flapping panels in wind. The fasteners have loosened, or the original installer used the wrong clip profile for your panel series. CGI clips are specific. Substituting a generic clip creates exactly this rattle the first time Santa Ana winds come through.
  • Gate dragging, sagging, or not latching. A CGI panel is heavier than wood, and if the gate frame wasn’t reinforced or the hinges weren’t sized for the weight, the gate chips away at the post until the latch side drops. You’ll see a scrape mark on the concrete and a post that’s twisting away from the gate load.
  • Rust lines at cut edges or along the bottom rail. Any cut edge that wasn’t touched up, or any panel that sits in sprinkler overspray, will eventually show rust. Pasadena’s dry season doesn’t help if irrigation is hitting the same spot every morning.
  • Gaps opening where panels overlap at the corners. Corners carry all the thermal expansion and wind load. If the corner wasn’t braced or the panels were field-cut short, the overlap opens up and you lose the clean look and the privacy coverage.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For a full CGI fence installation in Pasadena, expect $3,500 to $9,000 for a typical residential project. Panel replacement on a few sections runs lower, usually $800 to $2,500 depending on how many posts can be salvaged. What moves the price: the cost to remove and dispose of an existing fence, how many gates you have, the post depth we need to hit for your soil, and any slope that requires stepped panels or custom cuts.

Every estimate is a written line item. You see the panel cost, the post cost, the footing cost, the hardware cost, and the labor broken out before you approve anything. The price we put in writing is the price you pay. No change orders halfway through, no “we found something once we got digging” surprises. And every CGI fence installation from Sawyer Remodel Pasadena carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if something isn’t right within a year, we come back and make it right, at no charge.

DIY or Call Us?

There are things worth checking yourself. A loose screw on a hinge bracket, a sprinkler head hitting the same panel all day, a latch that just needs adjustment. Those are five-minute items, and you should absolutely handle them. But once a post has moved, the work gets serious. That post is set in concrete, supporting hundreds of pounds of steel, and if it’s leaning, you are pulling it out, re-digging the hole, setting a new post in a precisely mixed footing, and holding everything plumb while that footing cures.

Steel panels under tension can also spring if you unbolt the wrong rail first. It’s not life-threatening the way a garage spring is, but it can absolutely cut your hand open and knock you off a ladder. If your fence is the one holding back a Pasadena hillside or your gate weighs more than you do, call (626) 657-5396 and we’ll sort it right. The work tells you everything, as Luca Romano puts it. You just have to know how to listen to it.

How Long Will a CGI Fence Last in Pasadena?

A whole-home remodel with the living, dining and kitchen areas opened up

In Pasadena’s climate, a properly installed CGI fence should go 20 to 25 years before needing panel replacement, and the posts should last longer than that. What kills early is irrigation overspray on cut edges and shallow footings that shift in the freeze-thaw cycle Pasadena gets on cold winter mornings. We also repair and replace fences in neighborhoods throughout the area, from Bungalow Heaven to Hastings Ranch, and the pattern is consistent: the steel holds up, the install details decide.

Want to check if your CGI fence can be repaired instead of replaced? Call (626) 657-5396. We’ll walk you through what to look for before anyone books a visit.

Do You Stock CGI Parts, or Is There a Wait?

We stock common CGI fence installation hardware on our trucks: posts, clips, hinge kits, latch assemblies, and rail stock in galvanized and powder-coated finishes. For full panel runs, we order from our local Pasadena material partners and have them on site within a few business days. The same way we handle countertops from Cambria or Silestone and cabinetry from KraftMaid for a full-home remodel, we don’t want you waiting on a mystery supplier.

Will You Match the Exact CGI Color and Profile?

Yes, but it requires matching the original panel profile once before we order. Bring us a photo of the existing fence and a measurement of one ridge-to-ridge span, or let us come measure it ourselves. CGI’s green-tinted galvanized finish ages differently than their dark bronze powder coat, and we want the new sections to blend properly with what you already have.

How Long Does a CGI Fence Installation Take?

A typical residential CGI fence install takes one to two days once materials are on site. Tear-out of the old fence adds a day if the posts are set deep. During the project, you get live arrival time tracking and before-and-after photo updates as part of The Relay Visibility Guarantee, so you know exactly when the crew arrives and what got done while you were at work.
