PGT Fence Installation: The Pasadena Owner’s Guide

PGT fence installation in Pasadena typically runs $3,500 to $9,000 for a full perimeter install, depending on linear footage, gate count, and whether we’re working with PGT’s aluminum or vinyl panel lines. We install PGT fencing systems and stock the common PGT post caps, gate hinges, and panel brackets on the truck, so most installs wrap in one to two days. Usually the call starts with a gate that drags, a post that’s leaning after a rain, or a section that’s started to rattle in the Santa Ana winds and the owner finally decides to stop looking at it.

Which PGT Models This Applies To

We work with PGT’s aluminum fence lines and their vinyl privacy lines. PGT’s aluminum panels come in standard 4-foot sections with a 5/8-inch picket, but Pasadena hillside yards often need 6-foot sections trimmed or custom-raked to follow the grade, which is where pre-cut box-store panels fall apart. The gotcha with PGT aluminum is the bracket system: PGT uses a slide-lock bracket on their commercial-grade lines, and it doesn’t swap with the generic U-brackets most fence suppliers carry. You have to match the bracket to the panel series or the whole rail system sits loose. Vinyl PGT panels run a tongue-and-groove rail profile, and the post size determines everything: 4×4 posts take their residential vinyl line, 5×5 posts mean the heavier homeowner-grade panel. We’ll match by measuring the post and checking the panel stamping underneath the bottom rail. Independent note: Sawyer Remodel Pasadena is not affiliated with PGT Industries, but we source OEM PGT components directly and install them every month in Pasadena.

Signs Your PGT Fence Installation Is Failing

  • Gate drags or hangs low on the latch side. Nine times out of ten in Pasadena it’s the PGT gate post shifting in the soil. Our clay-heavy yards expand and contract with irrigation, and a post set shallow starts to lean. The fix is a new post footer at 24 inches or deeper plus a re-hung gate with the PGT self-closing hinge re-tensioned.
  • Panels rattle in wind. The slide-lock brackets have come loose or the rail cap has backed off. Common on PGT aluminum after a few seasons of Santa Anas. It’s a fifteen-minute fix for us but left alone, the rattle wears the bracket holes oval and then the panel sags.
  • Vinyl post cracking at the base. This is a Pasadena-specific issue: the dry summer heat makes the vinyl brittle at the concrete line, then winter rain gets in and freezes in our colder foothill spots like Altadena. A cracked base post can’t be braced, it gets pulled and swapped.
  • Rails bowing between posts. On PGT vinyl this means the tongue-and-groove rail has slipped or a post has twisted. The panel’s still fine, but the carrier channel needs a re-seat and the post re-plumbed. If it’s been bowing for a year, the rail is done and we replace that section.
  • Staining or powder coat flaking on aluminum. PGT’s factory finish on older lines wasn’t built for Pasadena’s hard water. Once the coating fails, the aluminum starts pitting and you’ll see white oxidation chalk. That’s a panel section replacement, not a touch-up.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

PGT fence install in Pasadena runs $3,500 to $9,000 for a typical yard. That’s a full perimeter with materials, posts set in concrete, gates hung, and the old fence hauled off. The spread comes from footage, gate count, and access: a flat backyard in Bungalow Heaven with two gates is a lot different than a hillside lot near the Arroyo with 18 inches of grade change and a retaining wall to work against. Every PGT install we write gives you a line-item price before we start, so you see the panel cost, post cost, gate hardware, and labor separated. The number you approve is the number on the invoice. We include a written workmanship guarantee on every PGT fence install we do, plus our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the gate sags, a post shifts, or a bracket fails inside a year, we come back and fix it. No re-quote, no argument.

DIY or Call Us?

You can absolutely check the obvious stuff: tighten a rattling rail cap, clear the dirt off the bottom rail, spray the gate hinge with a dry lube. But PGT’s slide-lock aluminum brackets and the vinyl rail channels are not forgiving when they’re forced, and a cracked post at the base is a structural job that involves digging footer holes in Pasadena clay. That’s not a weekend project. High-tension gate hinges under load can have a spring that lets go if you unbolt them wrong, and a vinyl section mid-removal wants to fold and crack. We do this weekly and our trucks carry the OEM PGT brackets and post hardware so there’s no running around. The work tells you everything. You just have to know how to listen to it. Call (626) 657-5396 and we’ll give you a straight number.
