Silestone Home Additions & ADU: The Pasadena Owner’s Guide
A home addition or ADU with Silestone surfaces in Pasadena typically runs $45,000 to $130,000 installed, depending on square footage, foundation work, and how much of the Silestone you’re using (countertops, backsplash, vanities). Most owners don’t “discover” a failed part the way you do with a water heater. You notice it when a seam opens on a Silestone countertop, a cabinet pull rips out, or the edge profile chips along a high-traffic corner. That’s the moment you wonder: can this be matched, or am I looking at a full replacement?
We match Silestone colors and profiles every week across Pasadena. If your Silestone surface is intact but the surrounding work failed (a sink flange, a cabinet face, an edge detail), you’re usually looking at a repair, not a replacement. The key is knowing which generation of Silestone you have. Older slabs from the pre-2015 series don’t always match current manufacturing runs exactly, even under the same color name. We’ll come out, identify the slab, and tell you straight what’s matchable and what isn’t.
Which Silestone Models This Applies To

Silestone has run several series over the years, and matching the wrong one is the most common mistake we see. The original Classic series, the Platinum series (introduced around 2014 with more veining), the Eternal series, and the more recent Loft and Urban Crush lineups all have their own color runs and edge profiles. A “White Zeus” from 2012 will not match a “White Zeus” slab poured in 2024. The pigments shifted, even if the name stayed the same.
To identify your slab, look under the front overhang or inside a cabinet end panel for a Silestone sticker or etched serial. If the sticker is gone, we use the thickness (most older slabs are 3cm, some early Pasadena condos used 2cm) and the edge profile to narrow it down. For surfaces still under warranty, we always recommend going OEM through an authorized fabricator. For out-of-warranty work, a quality aftermarket match is often two-thirds the cost and visually indistinguishable. We’ve done both, and we’ll tell you when one makes more sense than the other.
We’re an independent remodeler in Pasadena, not a Silestone dealer or warranty center. But that independence means we’ll tell you if a repair is worth doing at all.

Signs Your Silestone Home Additions & ADU Is Failing
- Seam separation at the joint. Pasadena’s dry heat and occasional heavy rain cycles expand and contract the substrate under the slab. If the seam opens more than a hairline (beyond 1/16″), the adhesive has failed and water can reach the cabinet below.
- Chipped edge on an overhang or sink cutout. Silestone is engineered quartz, tough but brittle at thin points. A dropped cast-iron pan on a 2cm edge will chip it. Small chips can be filled and polished; large breaks mean an edge re-cut or slab replacement.
- Sink flange separation. The most common failure in the kitchen. The adhesive under the sink rim fails, the Silestone stays put, but the sink starts to pull away. You’ll feel it flex when you press down on the basin.
- Dull, hazy patches that don’t polish out. This is factory polish wearing off, usually from years of abrasive cleaners. It’s more cosmetic than structural, but it’s a warning sign the slab is aging out of its protective seal.
- Cracks running from the inside corner of a cutout. This is the one we tell people to respect. A stress crack at a sink or cooktop corner means the slab was over-tightened or poorly supported. It will spread. It’s not a DIY fill job.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For Silestone-focused work within a larger Pasadena home addition or ADU, the numbers break down like this: an ADU construction with Silestone kitchen counters and a Silestone bathroom vanity typically runs $90,000 to $220,000. A garage conversion using Silestone surfaces falls between $30,000 and $80,000. A full home addition where Silestone is the primary surface material lands in the $45,000 to $130,000 range. If you’re just replacing a failed Silestone countertop section, countertop installation alone runs $2,000 to $6,500.
The spread depends on three things: slab square footage, whether we’re matching an existing color (matching costs more than new-build selection), and whether the substrate under the Silestone needs repair. Water-damaged cabinet decks happen all the time under failed sink flanges. We fix the deck, then set the slab.
Every quote is written before any Sawzall shows up. You get a line-by-line price for materials, labor, and disposal. The number you approve is the number on the invoice. If the part fails within a year of the repair, the 365-Day Done Right Promise means we come back and make it right, no invoice.
DIY or Call Us?
You can diagnose a lot on your own. Run a finger along the seam: if you feel a lip, it’s separating. Push down on the sink flange: movement means adhesive failure. Shine a flashlight at a low angle across the surface: haze means polish wear. Knowing what’s wrong before you call will save everyone time.
Here’s what you shouldn’t do: don’t caulk a separated seam and hope it holds. The slab is moving, and caulk won’t stop it. Don’t attempt to polish out a chip with a hardware store kit. Quartz polish is a specific grit progression, and getting it wrong leaves a visible dish in the surface. And never try to reset a full slab yourself. Silestone weighs about 180 pounds per sheet, and a dropped slab will crack, take out the cabinet, or worse. If a seam has opened more than an eighth of an inch, call us at (626) 657-5396. We’ll look at it, measure it, and give you a written number. No charge for the estimate.
FAQs

Twenty to twenty-five years is realistic for interior Silestone with normal use. In a hot Pasadena summer kitchen with direct window light, the polymer resins can yellow slightly over fifteen years. It’s slow, it’s cosmetic, and not every slab does it. Outdoor Silestone (grill surrounds, outdoor counters) has half the lifespan in our sun, so we steer clients toward concrete or porcelain for exterior.
Hairline stress cracks can be stabilized and filled, but the crack will always be visible under certain light. If the crack runs from a cutout corner, repair is a temporary band-aid. The slab needs replacement. Call (626) 657-5396 and we’ll give you an honest read.
A standard countertop swap is measured in days, not weeks. Template on day one, fabrication within a week, install in half a day. If we’re matching an existing color from the current Silestone line, add a week for the slab to ship. A full ADU with multiple Silestone surfaces runs on the project schedule, typically two to four months from permit to final.
We don’t warehouse slabs, but we have direct access to current Silestone color runs through our supplier network. For older, discontinued colors, we’ll tell you before you commit whether a true match is possible or if you should plan for a full-surface replacement. Either way, you’ll know the price in writing before we order anything.
